New Changes for SAT 2023

Time Duration

The exam duration for SAT before 2023 was three hours. However, the time duration for the digital SAT exam has been reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The Questions will not be identical

The College Board has specified that the new exam pattern of the digital SAT is going to be a bisectional test. This indicates that the questions will be computer generated and will be different for each candidate. One more update generated by the college board is that each question will be aligned with its preceding attempted question. For example, the second question you will attempt will be generated based on your first question.

This is a sign that the test will be more secure and authentic with no chances of sharing the answers.

One Section for Reading and Writing

Before the digital SAT was introduced the reading and the writing sections were different.  But with the new pattern, both of these sections have been combined as one. Now there would be two sections: reading and writing and mathematics.

Use of Calculators

From 2023 onwards, it is permissible to use calculators for the math section. There is also an embedded calculator given on the testing platform. However, if students are not comfortable with the Digital SAT Exams they can even carry a normal calculator.

The passages and questions will now be shorter

Since the time duration has been reduced, the College Board authorities have given some relaxations in the length of the paragraph. It is a good signal for the students as the passages would now be less complex and easy to analyze. Moreover, one more good news for the students is that each passage would only be addressed to one question rather than numerous questions.

More Attempts Offered from 2023 onwards

SAT will be offered 7 times a year rather than 5 times in all the countries across the world. Therefore, this is a chance for the students to plan their schedule accordingly and not hurry or worry about missing out on their admissions.

Results will be declared earlier

Earlier the results were considered to be a matter of a few weeks. However,  Due to the digital format, the results will be declared within a few days of the exam date. This is again a great piece of information for the students as they could start applying early for their targeted university. Moreover, as per the statements of the board, the results will be more precise and accurate than the earlier ones.

Time Allotted in the Reading and Writing Section

The reading and writing section will consist of two modules. Each module will have 27 questions and the ideal time to wind up each module is 32 minutes. The questions will consist of 25 operational questions and 2 pre-test questions

Math Mathematics Section

The time allotted to finish this section will be 70 minutes. It will consist of two modules. The first module will be a set of 22 questions bifurcated into the stage of 20 operational and 2 pre-tests. The pattern of the second module will be identical to the first one.
